In this role you will act as the main point of contact for the Forest Genetics group’s research infrastructure which comprises ~300 experimental sites, gene banks, databases and equipment. you will also be responsible for day-to-day delivery of forest genetics research projects, which typically involve a strong field component.

In this role you will provide technical and scientific expertise alongside operational management to ensure high quality data acquisition throughout our experimental wood research.

In this role you will support an increasing customer base and development scope within the Forestry Commission and external forestry customers. You will be working with the latest GIS technologies and data, presenting an excellent opportunity to utilise existing as well as develop new skills.

This PhD project with the University of St Andrews will integrate animal behaviour and ecosystem ecology, combining laboratory work and field experiments. It will focus on Nicrophorus burying beetles, which are obligate scavengers and are known as nature’s undertakers.

As Chair, you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of forest science in the UK,  at a time of unprecedented interest in the benefits which forestry can provide to society, a rapidly evolving delivery landscape across the devolved administrations, and new opportunities in forest science.

As a committee member, you will be expected to contribute to the work of the committee in reviewing and providing feedback and guidance on applied research, particularly in relation to forest science, forest genetics, silviculture, tree-breeding, forest management and related topics.

In this role you will be expected to carry out field work in remote locations and perform molecular diagnosis of key plant pathogens with support and guidance from staff.

This interdisciplinary PhD role with the University of Edinburgh involves monitoring and evaluating the carbon and ecosystem impacts of woodland creation and peatland restoration in Scotland using advanced analytical, remote sensing, and participatory approaches to inform environmental policy and practice.
